What is the history of the cuckoo? German craftsman in the Black Forest region spent the winter months indoors perfecting their wood carving skills and created these lovely clocks for their own use. It's said that a traveling peddler traded goods for the first cuckoo clocks that left the area and the love for them spread throughout Europe. Eventually, the construction of these fantastic clocks went from being a winter job to becoming a year-round job for these craftsman. Today, the clocks are still created in much the same way. The only differences are the music boxes that have been added, and a more modern clock works. However, the clock box itself is still crafted much the same way it was centuries ago when this wonderful invention came on the scene.
